BASIC SENTENCE STRUCTURE

Saya         bicara        bahasa Indonesia.
I                speak         Bahasa Indonesia.
(subject)   (verb)         (object).

Anda        belajar         bahasa Indonesia.
You           learn             Bahasa Indonesia.       

Dia           suka             durian.
He             like               durian.

*No verb conjugations!  No tenses!  But, there are time markers to indicate when actions occurred, e.g., yesterday, tomorrow, before, next week.* 

PRONUNCIATION GUIDE
Approximations in parentheses, phonetically written in English.

An apostrophe (') = guttural stop, like in "uh-oh!"
hh = aspirated h, like "hahaha!"
gg = hard g, like "guns 'n roses"

PRONOUNS
saya (SAH-ya) = I
Anda (AHN-da) = you (singular; always capitalized in written form)
dia (DEE-ya) = she/he
kita (KEE-ta) = we (includes speaker and hearer; like "all of us")
kami (KAH-mi) = we (includes speaker, excludes hearer; more like "us")
kalian (KAH-lee-ahn) = you (plural)

NOUNS
bahasa (bah-HA-sah) = language

VERBS
belajar (BELL-ajar) = to learn
bicara (bee-CHAR-a) = to speak
mengajar (MUNG-ajar) = to teach
suka (SOO-kah) = to like
mau (MAo *like Chairman Mao*) = to want

Greetings:
selamat pagi (seh-lah-maht PAH-ggee) = good morning (before noon)
selamat siang (seh-lah-maht SEE-yang) = good day (noon to 3 pm)
selamat sore (seh-lah-maht SOH-reh) = good afternoon (3 pm to 6 pm)
selamat malam (seh-lah-maht MAH-lam) = good evening (after 6 pm)
sampai jumpa (SAHM-pie JOOM-pa) = good-bye
